Starting out as an anti-auteurist filmmaker in the collective Filmgroup1,2,3 with Jan de Bont and Rem Koolhaas, Rene Daalder went on to work at the cutting edge of his medium for over 50 years. Heavily involved with special effects and software development, Daalder has gained worldwide recognition as a pioneer of virtual reality and digital motion picture technologies. He also co-founded several online platforms including Space Collective, Cargo, and Persona.

His films include teenage horror classic Massacre at Central High, punk rock musical Population: 1, Habitat and Hysteria. He also directed a Grammy-nominated music video for Supertramp’s Brother Where You Bound, wrote and directed a documentary about Bas Jan Ader entitled Here is Always Somewhere Else and collaborated with the Sex Pistols on The Great Rock ’n’ Roll Swindle.
